About National Stone Centre
A site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its geological wonders, the Stone Centre tells the story of stone. Its importance to our everyday lives and the allied industries it supports.
The National Stone Centre is a 40-acre site on the edge of the Peak District featuring 330 million-year-old geological formations. These geological features mean that it is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).
It is an educational charity that seeks to engage and inform visitors about the importance and history of stone and its allied industries.
Recently merged with the Institute of Quarrying, together our vision is to create a world-class visitor experience and an internationally significant centre of excellence for the quarrying and mineral products industry.
