Overview

Buxton library is a large sized library, located a short drive from the town centre serving customers in and around Buxton. We have a good sized children’s section and would like to utilise the space by arranging regular events to bring further customers in.

The purpose of the role is to bring pre schoolers and their carers into the library for a fun regular story time session, we hope this would lead to the child becoming a lifelong user of the library. We would like people to see libraries as more than a place to get books – a community hub, which is why we are looking to put on a number of sessions aimed at different age groups.
– No dbs is required, but we do ask that a short application form is completed, this asks for references. The references do not have to be work references.

– – Volunteering has value for individuals and communities because it offers opportunities for local people to contribute to their local community , provides additional value to services and promotes community cohesion.-

We are looking for a volunteer, who could give us around one hour a week to read stories and sing songs (not required) with young children. Someone with a good sense of fun and enthusiasm to keep small children entertained for the session would be fabulous.
– Previous experience has shown that a morning session is the best – ideally Monday (but open to other days) as this was the day of the previous session, and generally got a good turnout.
